Frequently asked questions
Becoming an independent travel advisor
Want to become an independent travel advisor? Here are the answers to all your questions about legal status, pay, suppliers and the support of the Collectif MyWay.
Regulation and legal status
Do I need a licence to become an independent travel advisor?
No. When you join the Collectif MyWay as a business introducer, the trips are sold by MyWay, the travel agency registered with Atout France, which holds the financial guarantee and the professional liability insurance. You therefore do not need an individual licence to work.
Do you have tour operator status?
Yes: we are registered with Atout France (No. IM059190009).
Do I need to set up a business?
Yes. To invoice your services and receive your fees, you need a legal structure (micro-entreprise, sole proprietorship, SASU, EURL…). We can help you with these formalities if needed.
What is the best legal status for a freelance travel agent?
It depends on your situation and your goals. Many agents choose the micro-entrepreneur status (micro-entreprise) for its simple admin and lighter charges. Others prefer to set up a SASU or an EURL for more flexibility and protection. We can advise you based on your project.
Pay and costs
How much can an independent travel agent earn?
Your income depends on the sales volume you generate and the margin you choose to set. The more you grow your client base, the more you earn. You benefit from our supplier agreements (consolidators, DMCs, GDS, tour operators), with no middleman, so you can compete with online prices.
What does it cost to join the Collectif MyWay?
Our model is deliberately simple and transparent. You pay a fixed monthly fee of €48, which gives you access to the whole collective: the platform, the business tools, the training, the support and day-to-day help. On top of that, MyWay keeps 3% of the sale price of the trips you sell, deducted when your fees are paid out: you never pay anything upfront. No joining fee, no minimum term, no tiers. Bank and insurance costs are charged to each booking at their exact cost: for example, for a payment in a foreign currency, the exact cost is shown clearly so you can factor it into your selling price.
What about payments and settlements?
Your client pays MyWay for their trip with the payment method of their choice. MyWay pays the suppliers in euros or in foreign currency, so you do not have to manage complex money flows. You then receive your fees by invoicing MyWay directly.
Business and suppliers
Can I choose my own suppliers and partners?
We care a great deal about our choice of partners. You are free to choose from the suppliers we have carefully selected on the platform. And if a supplier you need is missing, just let us know and, after review, we will add it.
Will I receive client leads when I join MyWay?
No. You are free to build and retain your own client base, following your own strategy and ambitions. We do, however, give you advice and tools to communicate and attract clients.
Am I liable if something goes wrong?
As a travel advisor, you are responsible for communicating properly with the client and for resolving any commercial issue relating to your bookings. Full legal liability towards the client lies with MyWay, which sells the trip. You remain responsible for the quality of your sales follow-up and for keeping your files in order, under the terms of the collaboration agreement.
Can I work without experience in travel?
No. It is hard to start as an independent travel agent with no experience in the sector. The job requires good knowledge of destinations, suppliers, regulations and client expectations. That said, if you have already worked in tourism, customer relations or sales, some skills can be transferred. Although we favour profiles with at least 2 years' experience in travel, we are open to atypical profiles with a strong interest in the field.
Support and assistance
Who can help me if I don't know a destination?
Our collective of independent travel advisors is a real asset: you can talk to peers who know the destinations you want to offer. We also regularly run training sessions and webinars to deepen your knowledge of certain destinations and suppliers.
What happens in the event of a dispute with a client or a supplier?
As a travel agency, we bear full legal liability. In the event of a dispute, we work together to give the traveller the best possible answer. We also provide resources and document templates to help prevent these situations.
